Martin Wickramasinghe (1890-1976) was a Sri Lankan journalist and author who is considered one of the country's greatest writers. He is often called the father of modern Sinhala literature.

- Born in Koggala, Sri Lanka on May 29, 1890.
- Attended Buonavista College in Galle, Sri Lanka.
- Died on July 23, 1976.
- Was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1953.
Work:
- Published 14 novels and 104 short stories.
- Edited the Sinhalese newspapers Dinamina, Silumina, and Lakmina.
- His works are known for their portrayal of Sri Lankan culture and life.
- His novel Viragaya is considered his most heralded work.
- His writings explore the life and culture of the people of Sri Lanka.
Legacy:
- The Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Museum is located on the grounds of his ancestral home.
- The Martin Wickramasinghe Trust was established to preserve his manuscripts, first editions, tape recordings, and photographs.
